Pride and excellence have always been the keys to Yum Yum's success. Working relentlessly to offer high quality products, the Jalbert family developed the recipe that gives the Yum Yum Chips its exceptional taste and texture.
Between 1959 and 1984, Yum Yum Chips grew by leaps and bounds. The production plant went from 9,000 square feet to 100,000 square feet.
There was an exponential boom in the size of the workforce, which exploded to 240 from the original 7 employees. The volume of potatoes processed increased a hundredfold. The company also introduced a new product: our famous Cheese Sticks. Over the years, always at the forefront of their industry, the company worked to improve the distribution network, which presently covers all of Quebec, Ontario and the Maritime provinces.
The years 1986 & 1987, saw Yum Yum Chips investing a significant amount of money in the modernization most of its equipment, taking it to the leading edge of technology and improving its competitive position.
In 1989, Denis Jalbert, son of Paul, became the sole owner and shareholder by purchasing the remainder of the shares still belonging to his father. Throughout the '90s, Denis headed a company destined to continue to maintain its success and ensure growth.
These improvements, combined with a better control of the quality processes allowed Yum Yum Chips to become the first chip manufacturer to receive an ISO 9002 certification in 1997.
As the new millennium approached, in an ongoing effort to innovate, Yum Yum Chips continued to refine its processes. Not only did the company purchase a new "peeler" and a new flow line, it was also the first manufacturer of chips in Canada to make the "0 Trans Fat" move.
Yum Yum Chips' willingness to meet consumers' healthcare requirements did not stop there. In 2004, Yum Yum Chips innovated once again by developing a new generation of chips: vegetable chips made with 100% natural ingredients.
Yum Yum's product portfolio would not be complete without the "Old Style" kettle cooked chips. Purchased in 2008, this new kettle stove started producing a "home style" chip in a variety of innovative flavours, in an attractive packaging design.
The future is promising! The snack food industry keeps evolving according to various trends. Yum Yum Chips will always continue innovating to provide its valued customers with the best products on the market!
